Hi,

I first wanted to use he default menu entry. -->> su-to-root -X -c
/usr/sbin/synaptic
That dit not work
i tyred sudo and it worked.
than i investigate little searching and find that su-to-root uses su.
i try su
result is failure

i did not set a active root account at installation.
i use my users password as there is no root

installation profiles
base-system
laptop

and
x-server-core gdm gnome-core

if su is not at fault than i think "su-to-root" is.
i hope this helps.
greetings
