Subject: Re: [syslinux] split out syslinux(1) should depend mtools

the syslinux binary package contains other stuff than just
/usr/bin/syslinux, and again, i do not want it to depend on mtools.

I am aware that the syslinux binary package contains other things than just /usr/bin/syslinux, as I mentioned in the initial report. Let us have a look:
% /usr/bin/gethostip
% /usr/bin/isohybrid
% /usr/bin/memdiskfind
% /usr/bin/syslinux

Four binaries, okay.

% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/README.Debian
% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/TODO.Debian
% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/changelog.Debian.gz
% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/changelog.gz
% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/copyright

Standard boilerplate.

% /usr/share/doc/syslinux/examples/mtoolsrc

Also pretty standard; an example file.

% /usr/share/man/man1/gethostip.1.gz
% /usr/share/man/man1/isohybrid.1.gz
% /usr/share/man/man1/memdiskfind.1.gz
% /usr/share/man/man1/syslinux.1.gz

Manpages; required by policy for the binaries.

That makes a total of four binaries, and a bunch of boilerplate/required files. I am positively *baffled* how it is reasonable to claim that it is okay for one-fourth of a package to be broken in its standard state! "I don't want to" is not a compelling argument for this state; back in sarge (!) when #265275 was filed, the syslinux package also included such things as:
./usr/bin/syslinux2ansi
./usr/bin/lss16toppm
./usr/bin/ppmtolss16
./usr/lib/syslinux/img1743k.gz
./usr/lib/syslinux/img720k.gz
./usr/lib/syslinux/syslinux.com
./usr/lib/syslinux/img1200k.gz
./usr/lib/syslinux/img1440k.gz
./usr/lib/syslinux/syslinux.exe
./usr/lib/syslinux/copybs.com
./usr/lib/syslinux/pxelinux.0
./usr/lib/syslinux/isolinux.bin
./usr/lib/syslinux/isolinux-debug.bin
./usr/lib/syslinux/memdisk
./usr/lib/syslinux/ldlinux.bss
./usr/lib/syslinux/ldlinux.sys
[25 files in /usr/share/doc/syslinux/examples]
./usr/share/doc/syslinux/comboot.doc
./usr/share/doc/syslinux/syslinux.doc
./usr/share/doc/syslinux/pxelinux.doc
./usr/share/doc/syslinux/isolinux.doc
./usr/share/doc/syslinux/memdisk.doc
./usr/share/man/man1/ppmtolss16.1.gz
./usr/share/man/man1/syslinux2ansi.1.gz
./usr/share/man/man1/gethostip.1.gz
./usr/share/man/man1/lss16toppm.1.gz

Now, that's a good selection of data files, and the explanation given when closing 265275, that people wanted the sysutils package for data files and adding the dependency would penalize them, is plausable. Yet the data files are gone in the present sysutils package, so this explanation cannot be reused wholesale. Please provide an argument that is compelling in the present situation, or add the dependency.
