Hi Adam, As described at bug#582952, upstream dash gained LINENO support, which makes autoconf consider it as a candidate for CONFIG_SHELL and reveals bashisms in some configure scripts sprinkled through the archive. Dash in sid has LINENO support disabled for that reason, and dash uploads in experimental turn it back on again to allow people to test. In particular, if you use a dash/experimental build (easiest to grab one from snapshot.debian.org at the moment) or set CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/dash explicitly, babel fails to build from source.
