I probably forgot to fix the desktop-file.
If you change the Exec line in /usr/share/applications/wicd.desktop to
"wicd-gtk --tray", it should autostart the correct way.

I'll have a look.
You mean that simply starting "wicd-gtk" opens the GUI *and* the tray icon, and
if you click the tray icon it opens a *new* GUI? And then if you click more,
this new window hides/shows correctly?
