As mentioned in the Ubuntu report [1], there appears to be a one-line fix [2] (cherry-picked from upstream work and distinct from that attached by Michael Shuler). The
Ubuntu bug is unfortunately marked as "medium" importance, even though the vpnc package for Oneiric appears to be unconditionally broken.
