I did not yet look into this, as it sounds like it is a non-trivial amount of work. How big are the API changes? Can the migration be done without restructuring the current code? Is there maybe a migration guide? Of course, if you can provide a patch for this issue, I’ll include it quickly. If it turns out too difficult, then it may be time to remove xaralx from Debian.
