Where do you sign up as a developer? You can become the maintainer of a single package fairly simple, using the Debian Maintainer institution. If you want to become a Debian Developer with full project rights, there is the New Maintainer process. See <URL: http://www.debian.org/devel/join/newmaint > for details. I doubt I will have much time to spend on metainit myself.
