1) As you guess sessions schroots don't work because you always try to begin a session.
2) --add-depends is great if I want to add a dependency. In my case though I'm building a set of related packages triggered by buildbot and I want to make previous build results available to other sbuild invocations in the same environment. It's undesirable for a number of reasons to make the build available in a public repository until after all the builds complete.
