How about running the cronjob every day instead of every week? I would
personally want to know as soon as possible if someone rooted my
machine.

I agree, its nicer to know sooner.

So unless it takes a really long time to run rkhunter, I would suggest
that the weekly cronjob be run every day instead.

Perhaps the signature database update could be run once a week and the system scan be run daily. This could be configurable.

Also, I would also like to suggest that you add debconf question like the one in chkrootkit that enables the cronjob with users having to manually
edit a config file.

A good suggestion as well.
