I agree, its nicer to know sooner.
So unless it takes a really long time to run rkhunter, I would suggest
that the weekly cronjob be run every day instead.
Perhaps the signature database update could be run once a week and the
system scan be run daily. This could be configurable.
Also, I would also like to suggest that you add debconf question like the
one in chkrootkit that enables the cronjob with users having to manually
edit a config file.
A good suggestion as well.
