I just uploaded a new upstream release of this ibus-chewing package. This selection problem may be ibus problem. ibus has gone through many updates and also updated by me recently to 1.4.0-3. Please check this problem still exists. http://bugs.debian.org/bug=632200 I am wondering if this bug is the reason behind your wish to package HIME?
