I see that you have reported this bug to bugzilla.kernel.org as 4904 [0].
The solution which has been committed to git on August 4th involves
setting the value of HPET_EMULATE_RTC to yes if HPET_TIMER and RTC are
configured. I guess we could have enabled that too, however currently
HPET_EMULATE_RTC is only going to be set if RTC is compiled in:
config HPET_EMULATE_RTC
bool
depends on HPET_TIMER && RTC=y
default y
This is a problem since in Debian RTC is traditionally compiled as a
module and changing it to be built-in now seems as a rather intrusive
change. I'll try post a follow-up to the bug asking for opinions of
kernel developers and Debian kernel team on how to resolve this.
