Could you also please test:
$ melt foo.dv
$ ffplay foo.dv
Are there differences?
$ melt capture2011.12.20_22-01-54.dv
Melt does show the file in the wrong colors.
$ ffmpeg -i capture2011.12.20_22-01-54.dv x.avi
$ vlc x.avi
The combination ffmpeg and vlc shows the correct colors.
The error is melt related.
