I also encountered this problem. The 'winbind -i user' seems to work for some of my users in the AD but not for others. It might have to do with the level of nesting of OUs that the users are within?
Anyway, I tried upgrading to the 3.6.2-1 Debian package of Winbind and the problem still exists in this version also. I've have to back out to version 3.5.11 for now.
