Which 3.2.y kernel did you test?
I tested 3.2.4-1 from unstable.
I will upgrade the lenny test system to sid and try building a kernel
with this patch.
I did
apt-get install linux-source-3.2 (which downloaded 3.2.4-1 package)
tar -xjf /usr/src/linux-source-3.2.tar.bz2
cd linux-source-3.2/
apt-get build-dep linux-image-`uname -r` (3.2.0-1-amd64)
patch -p1 <../kernel-vim.patch
cp /boot/config-3.2.0-1-amd64 .config
make oldconfig
make localmodconfig
make -j4 deb-pkg
and installed the resulting kernel.
Thus far I have not been able to trigger the bug on this kernel. I will
test some more, but I believe the patch you suggested indeed fixes this bug!
