Thanks for the bug report.
Unless I'm missing something, conflicting with a priority “optional”
package is only violation of a “should” policy[0]. That'd normally
translate to a bug with severity “important”.
That said, I agree that this bug should be fixed before the wheezy
release, so I'll keep the current severity.
[0] Policy §2.5: “optional packages should not conflict with each other”.
