While I'm trying to understand the nature of a problem you might find interesting to have a look at the abiword build log from powerpc architecture: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=abiword}&arch=powerpc&ver=2.9.2%2bsvn20120131-1&stamp=1329396465 and compare it with yours. Please note versions of dependency packages. Likely some critical for abiword package(s) is outdated so if we track the problem to a particular dependency I can force its minimum version. 'dget' is only downloading source package and extract it. I reckon our problem is not with hardening but something related to shared library.
