I've re-installed the machine using one lenny instalation (not sure which version) and there was no flickering. I've then upgraded to squeeze - not sure which version - using another instalation CD) and the flickering was there. I've then dist-upgraded and the flickering was still present. So I've done what you asked in the previous e-mail: picked up the sources from squeeze, applied twose two patches (but not the third), installed the resulting linux-image and booted it: the flicker was still present. I'll try to get some time tomorrow for testing 2.6.37+30 and up from http://snapshot.debian.org/binary/linux-image-2.6-686/ until I find one that doesn't flicker, and I'll let you know the results.
