Hi,

today I had the chance to test cups with a pcl5e Printer (Brother HL-2030), funny thing, the message "PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table..." is the same, BUT it does print the testpage document! One can see that message briefly while the printjob is processed and after the job is finished (and printed out correctly) the status of the printer changes to idle with the message above and mentioned earlier. A simple texdocument from e.g. within gedit (Gnome texteditor) does not show this message and the document is printed out fine too. Another thing I forgot to mention in the last post, the Kyocera printers tend to stay "busy" when I try to test something. They don't enter energy-saving mode and make a lot of noise (the same noise that happens directly before a printout) and never stop doing that. No idea if that puts unnecessary strain on the printers but it could and thus makes this issue maybe even more dramatic.

My current assumption is that somewhere "in between" the postscript data is mangled the wrong way and thus confusing the printers, as non postscript printers are not affacted (apart from the same "PDF file is damaged..." message) but the cups / gnome testpages are iirc just Postscript-documents and thus the message is the same...

regards
Michael
