It would be useful for debianutils to be marked "Multi-Arch: foreign", to indicate that it can satisfy (presumably versioned) dependencies of packages of other architectures. This would help supporting crossgrades (say, from i386 to amd64); the latest mail¹ from the main dpkg developer talks about this possibility.
