Hi keke,

there is an open issue in the Debian Bug tracking System about smstools,
that we should try to solve. It is about the behavior of smsd when it is
run from a console, that it does not fork itself into background. So you
have to add a & sign at the end of the command to do this.
Furthermore the user states that if you do start it like this, then the
process dies when user session is closed. I could not verify/reproduce
the last statement. Therefore i believe it is either wrong or already
solved.

But IMO it would make sense to get rid of this need to have add a & in
the end of the command to get it running as a daemon properly. Maybe it
would be an idea to add another option -d as an equivalent to -s to
launch smsd in background.

Happy to hear from you about this
Best Regards

Patrick
