IIRC I ran into this problem several months ago. I had avahi-daemon installed, but it was shutting down itself since it detected that my isp had a .local zone. I asked my ISP to remove this zone but they stated that it was not possible due to all misconfigured windows hosts that where flooding their dns servers with invalid lookups in the .local zone (due to this being the default TLD used for bogus Active Directory "domains"). (I don't know if avahi still shuts down, but I guess so. I've since switched DNS servers to some that doesn't have a .local zone to make avahi work.) I guess this situation will be quite common and it would be nice if the padevchooser instead of just "crashed", displayed a dialog stating that avahi needs to be running. (I personally find it quite annoying when an application just dissapears when I start it via a launcher in the GUI and have to start a terminal to see what happened, others might not even know how to start a terminal and launch the application there...)
Consider a proper error dialog when startup isn't possible due to avahi not running a wishlist bug please. :) -- Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
