Thanks for reporting this. I've tried to reproduce it here without any luck. Since it seems repeatable for you, would you mind trying a few experiments? Was there anything of interest in the syslog of the downstream approx client? Is it always hanging trying to retrieve the same file, or does it vary? Does it still hang if you use apt directly, rather than a downstream approx server, as the client? Does it hang if you use a different remote repository?
