I tried to reproduce this on sid/powerpc, but it runs OK:
$ gcompris
** Message: gcompris_set_locale ''
** (gcompris:32489): WARNING **: Requested locale '' got 'en_GB.UTF-8'
open /dev/sequencer: No such file or directory
Opened audio at 44100 Hz 16 bit stereo, 2048 bytes audio buffer
What does `xdpyinfo | grep RANDR` show? My X server (FBDev) has this
enabled. Perhaps your server doesn't, and gcompris isn't handling
this gracefully?
Despite the warning, I get sound (udev/devfs /dev/sound/*).
