That's only one aspect of the story. When I adopted the package in April
I originally intended to learn about it in the progress of maintaining
it. Yet quickly I found I didn't have the time to really delve into
it, so even before that bug was reported I felt overstrained. Then, on
that day, I recieved the bugreport right before starting into a day of
work which I already knew would turn stressful in many ways, so I
tried to make the best out of it, but didn't quite get it right.

Of course, basically I agree with you: If you don't know something,
learn it. But learning needs time. Without time at hand one won't
learn. Without learning one might stay clueless. A person that doesn't
really have a clue about a package shouldn't maintain it.
If I really wanted to hide before the problem, I guess I simply would
have orphaned it. Instead, I'm going to try my best to resolve the
remaining issues, but I acknowledge someone else might be better
suited for maintaining and I wouldn't like to be in his / her way. If
nobody steps up to take over I'll continue maintaining it and put my
limited resources into this task, I definitely won't just run away.

Pondering this I thought the text for RFA was quite fitting: "Due to
lack of time, resources, interest or something similar, the current
maintainer is asking for someone else to maintain this package. They
will maintain it in the meantime, but perhaps not in the best possible
way."

Cheers,
Flo
