Afaik it is completely ok to ask debconf questions for stuff with sane defaults *if* they are asked at correct priority. priority low is not shown by default, so it should be correct, imho. It is not that I am caring at all for this specific question, I would just like have a correct, dependable, consistent policy for acceptable debconf questions.
