Dear Markus Thank you for your interest in the mondo package and for the bug report you have submitted.
mondoarchive can backup to various types of storage media; DVD is only one of them. growisofs is only required for backing up to DVD, it is not required for any other storage type. Therefore a 'Recommends' dependency to the dvd+rw-tools is adequate as it basically says that it should be installed without forcing people (that may not have a DVD writer) to do so. (Please see Debian Policy, section 7.2 for details about binary dependencies.) And to answer Alban's question: In case growisofs is not available and the user specifies DVD as the backup media, mondoarchive will stop with a fatal error 'Please install growisofs.'. (Depending on how mondoarchive was invoked, the message may disappear again quickly, however, it is also written to the log.) Again, backups to other types of media are _not_ affected at all. I believe that the issue reported here is not a bug for the above mentioned reasons. I therefore intend to close this bug report. It would be great if you could provide feedback either way.
