Regarding debian bug #508351 which you filed. Does it work if you manually modprobe scsi_target_iscsi before you do invoke-rc.d open-iscsi start?
If not, could you please describe a bit more about what fails? Is the /sys/module/scsi_transport_iscsi/version file present and what does it contain?
