Ack, the package now (as in: since file/limagic{1,-dev}/5.00-1 is in
unstable) also FTBFS locally (on i386).

Actually the tests fail because of a patch that works around the
broken file version, after removing the patch all is fine again.
Therefore I'd rather remove the patch (+ quilt) and make the build
dependency on libmagic-dev versioned (and maybe add a versioned
dependency on libmagic1 manually).
