I hit the same very issue (FTBFS) when I was trying to build wmaker with debug symbols (since noone cared to create -dbg versions for all those libraries) to troubleshoot very elderly #148370 which now makes my awesome look not that awesome.
Please please take care about grave bugs, especially those which are
easily fixable and replicable
