Wouldn't it be a good idea to switch the config file to use xterm instead of x-terminal-emulator? Having x-terminal-emulator pointing to a Terminal using tabs is not uncommon (especially since slim might be a natural choice for Xfce users, which usually means x-terminal-emulator points to xfce4-terminal which has tabs support).
