I don't see any good reason for the package to stay in the archive, frankly. NMUing it for that bug will only extend the life of the package. AFAICS it also needs the upstream tarball cleaning up too. If the maintainer isn't interested in fixing these bugs in a reasonable length of time, then let's just drop it.
