Thanks for your prompt response. I removed and replaced with a version from testing, this also required a config file update.
I'd be happy to close this bug if the package is updated to depend on an exact version of xerces, so nobody else falls for this. -- Jason Cormie Senior Information Specialist Serv & Dirs Information Services University of Abertay Dundee The University of Abertay Dundee is a charity registered in Scotland, No:SC016040 -----Original Message----- From: Russ Allbery [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sat 12/26/2009 20:11 To: Cormie, Jason Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: Bug#562636: libshibsp4: shibd wont start Jason Cormie <[email protected]> writes: > Package: libshibsp4 > Version: 2.3+dfsg-1 > Severity: grave > Justification: renders package unusable > uadsmc11:~# /etc/init.d/shibd restart > shibd error: unable to run config check as user > Restarting Shibboleth 2 daemon: /usr/sbin/shibd: symbol lookup error: > /usr/lib/libshibsp.so.4: undefined symbol: > _ZNK10xmltooling27AbstractDOMCachingXMLObject6setDOMEPN11xercesc_3_010DOMElementEb > shibd. > any ideas? Ongoing Xerces-C transition. Xerces-C 3.1 was uploaded to unstable, which changes the namespace for all Xerces-C objects, so the Shibboleth stack has to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, there isn't a good way to make that transition cleanly, since the API of the underlying Shibboleth libraries changes based on what version of Xerces-C they're built against. Two of the dependent libraries have been rebuilt and there are two more to go. In the meantime, you'll want to use the versions from testing. -- Russ Allbery ([email protected]) <http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/>
