Dear Paul
Upstream has provided a patch[1] for this issue that I tested and found that it works very well[2], which is now in debian nsis 2.08-3, which I'll be uploading to debian mentors once I can find a fix for the BgImage segfault.
Tested the examples again and those worked great.
