That's nice in theory, but in practice you're not just dealing with
autoconf code, you're dealing with all sorts of 3rd party autoconf
macros which, with the best will in the world, are unlikely all ever
to be fixed upstream, for as long as developers continue to use
systems with bash as /bin/sh.
