I think it's probably arch-specific.  It looks like it's linking
loadable modules into a executable.  IIRC some arches don't like
mixing PIC and non-PIC code.

The solution would be to create a static copy of the modules, or
dlopen() them as intended.  This is probably something to take up with
upstream ;-)
