Package: clamav
Severity: serious

Hi,
[Note; this has been discussed before, but there never was a
real conclusion, but we need to discuss/fix this for Squeeze]:

We should not include clamav in stable any longer, it really is
too volatile to end up in a stable release. #550296 (which
should be RC as well, BTW) is just the tip of the iceberg.

ClamAV maintainers already provide quick updates through volatile,
which is exactly the way clamav should be maintained. Right now
too many people keep old, buggy versions from the standard stable
which cause more harm than benefit.

There are a few rdeps of libclamav. These need to be changed to
no longer use clamav through the library interface or be moved
to volatile as well. After all, they're bound to break through
changes like #550296 as well.

Cheers,
        Moritz

As discussed we can retain clamav in stable under the assumption that
the maintainer help with preparing new clamav upstream versions for
stable. Security updates will also use new upstream versions as
seen fit. The amount of rdeps is minimized for the squeeze cycle
to lower the impact of ABI bumps.

Kind regards,
