With the default mpi implementation being openmpi / mpich2, there
shouldn't be a need for a third (and fourth, with mpich) implementation
in the wheezy release.

Greetings, and thanks for your report!

Unfortunately, I disagree with your suggestion.  Forced obsolescence is
a tried and true stratagem in the arsenal backing non-free software,
openly at variance with the purpose of Debian to actually serve the
needs of its users.  I know specifically of real companies using the
Debian lam packages, but even if I did not, there are countless examples
in the archives providing older source in a convenient form awaiting the
possibility of someone coming along and making use of it.  I think lam
and any package should be terminated when it can no longer be built,
when the maintainer loses interest, or when there is some other
irreparable policy violation.
