Thanks for the follow-up on this bug, it's getting a little old having to use a squeeze vm to check my email.

I installed claws-dbg and gdb which also brought in gdb-server, and then did as instructed in a MATE terminal (and in LXTerminal, where I got the same output).

Here's what I got, since it's not much I'll send it all, and I did run it as my desktop user (i.e. cia, not as root): After running claws mail and having it crash while it was retrieving emails for my 2nd email account (I think it goes to the inbox for the 1st email account), the terminal showed:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

$ gdb /usr/bin/claws-mail core
