Well, no you haven't, really :)

mailman_transport:
  driver = pipe
           ^^^^

That just means that exim is delivering to a pipe, but you don't have to
actually write "| /path/to/command".

The fact that exim has a highly configurable and rich syntax doesn't
make another package rc buggy, though, at least IMHO.

I would suggest the following:

Write up a quick router transport pair (or send the suggested
/etc/aliases entry and relevant info to me, and I'll do it, if need
be).

Set the severity of the bug to wishlist, and retitle "Please include
these exim4 docs in the package".
