Did you already have cheese coredumps before the fix or did cheese just hang? If so, this is a different bug than the one that I fixed.
I only had a coredump once with cheese, that was when I ran it the first time after having patched it. Since then it is running just fine on my notebook. Are you able to reliably reproduce the coredumps?
