I'll need your help to track this down.

Please, what are the messages on screen at the time the system gets blocked?
I need to know whether the lockup happened while running the package postinst
script, or while creating the initramfs.

Also, as user root, please run following commands and tell me if any of them
have ill effects (you most certainly don't want to have any important files
or programs open while doing this test):

modprobe msr
modprobe cpuid
modprobe microcode

(requires package iucode-tool installed, and module cpuid loaded):

iucode_tool -vv -S
