Apart from using 'setkey' I use nothing else that fiddles with pfkey sockets 
that I know of.

Nope, just the regular 2.6.14 Linux kernel, with the ck patchset and also the 
ipv6 usagi patches applied.  Never played with freeswan/openswan.

There is nothing 'exciting' in my racoon.conf or sainfo files either.
