It seems that the problem only happens after downgrading from the version in sid to the one in stable (as I was trying the version in sid, because of another bug I was hitting in the package), and then purging the package. There is a new conffile in sid that is added to statoverride: /etc/opendnssec/addns.xml So, when downgrading, that file is not a conffile anymore, but stays in the statoverride file, and after purging, the username does not exist anymore, and the override is not removed. Thus rendering dpkg broken. So, probably the severity should be downgraded. And I am not sure of how to solve this, but I imagine that even if downgrading is not supported, we don't like the possibility of this ever happening.
