Package: base
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
After installation, on Dell Inspiron 1501, after grub booting on the linux
kernel the screen goes garbled and resume working after 10 minutes
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
The only workaround was to put the following three lines in /etc/rc.local:
vbetool dpms off
sleep 1
vbetool dpms on
   * What was the outcome of this action?
After a few seconds, instead of waiting 10 minutes, the screen appeared normal
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I will expect to get a normal screen just after grub booting

Hi,

I'm closing this bug on the assumption that this is hardware problem, which
could+should be worked around in the linux kernel (like hundreds of similar
issues), so that you don't have to execute those commands manually.

But: this is likely already fixed in newer kernels. (So I'm closing the bug.)
What you could do is to try out a jessie installation and see if the problem
is still there. If so, please file a new bug or reply to this+me, it's easy to
reopen this bug.

cheers,
        Holger

[21:17] < h01ger> | any idea what to do with #748666 ?

[21:18] < h01ger> | closing and sending to
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/ feels mostly right, but then it also
smells like a real bug (in the hw TBH) which
could be wurk arounded in linux like zillion other bugs in hw
[21:20] < mones> yep, sounds like a hw bug
[21:23] < h01ger> | so closing and suggesting to try current jessie and
file a new bug if the problem is still there. thanks.
[21:25] < h01ger> | mones: i'll include your response in my mail to -
done, ok?
[21:25] < mones> | h01ger: sure, no problem
