Since upgrading from 2.4.9-1.1 to 2.5.1-1, fonts rendered by freetype
now show up as fuzzy, with straight lines smeared across subpixels
rather than snapped to pixels.
I've attached two screenshots demonstrating the problem. The first,
font-bug.png, shows the same dialog box with both versions: 2.4.9-1.1 on
the left, and 2.5.1-1 on the right. Notice that the fonts on the left
look crisp and clean, and the ones on the right look fuzzy and blurred.
The second screenshot, font-bug-zoomed.png, shows a zoomed-in version of
the same word ("information") with both versions: 2.4.9-1.1 on the top,
and 2.5.1-1 on the bottom. Look at the vertical lines in both:
2.4.9-1.1 renders vertical lines sharply using a 1px-wide black line,
while 2.5.1-1 smears those vertical lines across several subpixels,
leaving them fuzzy on both sides.
