The patch 08-fix_random_MAC_choice.patch has been changed from version 1.7.0-1.1, with no mention in the debian changelog. That version of the patch totally breaks macchanger. To understand this, look at mac.c in function mc_mac_random. First you need to realize that the variable "newmac" should be called oldmac: It is assigned the original mac address. Then, "mac" is randomized until it is different from the original one called "newmac". And finally "newmac" - the original mac address - is copied back into "mac" !! oO Please revert the change in version 1.7.0-2 and use the patch from version 1.7.0-1.1, or similar.
