Thanks for the report.

/dev/snd is not necessarily provided by alsa-base.  On a udev system, udev 
creates
/dev/snd when an ALSA module is loaded.  It is true that alsa-base configures 
the
loading of ALSA modules; however, this configuration is not something upon which
alsa-utils directly Depends.
