What if one or more maintainers do not agree with you to make his packages break away from libav? What result are you aiming to achieve? Splitting multimedia packages up in two groups, each one depending on a different implementation of the same interfaces? And on the basis of what? I feel that we'd better *first* decide on which one between ffmpeg and libav we want to keep, and drop the alternative.
