Ok, I have now confirmed the following things. If you install a *MINIMAL* chroot with *NO* gsfonts, then: * compilation works without problems. * output is also perfect, no problems with fonts. After that I installed gsfonts, and booooooom, compilation fails. And if it succeeds, fonts are messed up. So it is as I suspected: gsfonts, the completely broken and wrong and irregular and PITA gsfonts with cyrillic glyphs are the problem. I don't see what *I* as TeX Live maintainer can do here, besides putting a conflicts against gsfonts into tex-common, which will not work either due to dependencies. It is all nothing bug a BIG BIG mess, started by the completely unnecessary addition without renaming. My tendency is to reassign this to gsfonts and forget about it.
