Dear Kevin

thanks a lot for your efforts!

yes, you interpreted correctly that distributing those files together
with Geant3 is permitted: the only issue is that they are not GPL'ed
and their "license" (actually an use agreement between my previous Institution and CERN) explicitly forbids any use outside Geant3 and/or
modifications.

Thanks again for your help!

                      Best regards
                     Alfredo Ferrari

Dear Dr. Ferrari,

I am happy to be able to inform you that the GEANT-FLUKA code you told
me about in the Debian packages of CERNLIB has finally been completely
removed from the "testing" and "unstable" distributions of Debian
GNU/Linux (also known as "Etch" and "Sid", respectively). The delay was
due to backlogs on some of the computers that automatically build
packages for different architectures.

I have just prepared packages of CERNLIB that will also remove the
GEANT-FLUKA code from the current stable distribution of Debian,
code-named "Sarge", and I have uploaded the packages to
"stable-proposed-updates". Unlike the case with the "testing" and
"unstable" distributions, I have no control over whether or not these
new packages will be accepted. We will just have to wait and hope that
the stable release manager will accept them for the next point release
of Sarge.

If I correctly understand your previous comment,

As explained in the CERNLIB disclaimers those files are permitted to
be used with GEANT321. So no problem on that and no hurry to remove.
The issue is that they are not GPL licensed and I understand this is
not what you want (a mixture of GPL and different, not compatible
licenses) for obvious reasons.

then you do not have a problem with Debian continuing to distribute the
code in question while we wait for the release manager's decision.
Thank you for your patience and understanding about this issue!

best regards,
